As part of the new year and managing some of my chronic wrist pain, I've been reading more in order to keep myself busy since I need to take breaks from the computer more often. I typically haven't read too many books, to be honest, as I always considered myself to be a very slow reader, but that's changed for me recently!

With my role as Head of Design at Northstar, leadership and people management have been the focus of my personal learning lately. Luckily for me, there are so many great books out there on this topic, in addition to how they translate to design.

To start, I'd like to recommend one of my favorite books I've ever read, Powerful by Patty McCord. Patty was a Co-Founder at Netflix and worked there for 14 years, developing the culture of the company. This book focuses on building a culture of freedom and responsibility at any size team, especially as that company begins to grow and become successful.

I personally found myself nodding and highlighting on almost every page, and gained insights around process, strategy, managing, and hiring as a design leader at Northstar. I know these topics have been specifically requested here on Patreon so I highly recommend you pick it up as it's a very easy read in my opinion.

Amazon has it as a physical book for ~$15 and for free on Audible here. It should also be at your local bookstore or on places like Thriftbooks if you prefer!
